Dh50,000 Fine for Dubai Motorcyclist Caught at 290km/h
Dubai Police have summoned a motorcyclist who was filmed riding at more than 290km/h while performing dangerous stunts and weaving between vehicles. The rider, who was identified and apprehended by specialist traffic patrols after the video surfaced, faces a Dh50,000 impoundment fee for the release of their motorcycle under Dubai Decree No. 30 of 2023.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic, warned that riding a motorcycle at such high speeds leaves almost no room for error and poses a serious risk to everyone on the road. At speeds above 290km/h, a rider has far less time to react to sudden changes, obstacles, or vehicles entering their path, and losing control can send a motorcyclist over a considerable distance and into barriers, kerbs, lamp posts, or other vehicles.
The Dubai Police have stressed that the road is not a place for stunts or speed tests and have urged motorcyclists to follow traffic rules and ride responsibly. The police are using smart traffic monitoring systems and patrols to detect dangerous driving and take action against offenders.
The incident highlights the dangers of reckless riding and the importance of road safety. Motorcyclists are reminded to always follow traffic rules and ride safely to avoid putting themselves and others at risk.
Dubai Decree No. 30 of 2023 on vehicle impoundment allows for the release of an impounded vehicle after payment of the specified fee, in addition to any other penalties or legal measures that may apply.
This incident is not an isolated case, as Dubai Police have previously taken action against drivers and motorcyclists who engage in reckless behavior on the roads.
