New Dubai RTA Bridge Cuts Travel Time to 5 Minutes

The new four-lane bridge, part of the Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets Development Project, has opened in Dubai, reducing delays at the Al Qudra intersection. This project aims to improve traffic flow along the Sheikh Rashid Corridor and marks another milestone in the scheme. The bridge connects Al Khail Road directly to Al Asayel Street, increasing Oud Metha Street’s capacity by 50% and cutting travel time from 20 minutes to 5 minutes.

The overall project has now reached 90% completion, with two new tunnels scheduled to open by the end of August. One tunnel will connect the service road on Oud Metha Street to the Sheikh Rashid Street intersection for traffic heading towards Bur Dubai, while the other will serve vehicles traveling from Dubai-Al Ain Road towards Al Wasl Club Street. This will help reduce congestion in the area.

At the Zabeel Palace Street-Al Khail Street-Oud Metha Street intersection, an extra lane is being added for traffic traveling from Al Khail Street towards Dubai-Al Ain Road, doubling capacity from 900 to 1,800 vehicles per hour. A new underpass serving vehicles traveling from Dubai-Al Ain Road to Al Wasl Club Street is also being constructed. The project also includes widening an existing bridge carrying traffic from Al Khail Street towards Oud Metha Street from two lanes to three, increasing capacity from 2,200 vehicles per hour to 3,300 vehicles per hour.

The Dubai RTA‘s efforts to improve traffic flow and strengthen connectivity between major corridors and vital facilities are part of a larger plan to accommodate population growth across central Dubai. With the new bridge and upcoming tunnels, residents and commuters can expect reduced travel times and improved traffic conditions in the area.
