Splitting School Fees With Your Bank: What It Really Costs
Many UAE banks let parents convert a school fee payment on a card into monthly instalments. “Zero interest” is common, but processing and admin fees are not. Based on the publicly advertised plans of 13 banks in mid-August 2026, the cost of the same AED 20,000 bill ranged from nothing to several hundred dirhams. Always compare the total in dirhams, not the headline rate.

Several windows have closed, so treat the table as a guide to how plans are structured, and check your bank’s current offer. The only explicit cashback in the same comparison was Emirates Islamic’s Amazon card promotion, 10% back in Amazon points on school payments made 28 July to 10 September, capped at AED 750. No general “AED 1,000 cashback” was advertised.
How to choose
- Ask for the total fee in dirhams for your bill amount and term.
- Check that your school’s payment counts under the bank’s education merchant code, or pay through the route the bank names.
- Remember that the full amount reduces your card limit immediately and is restored only as you repay.
- Know the early-settlement fee and the charge for a missed instalment, which can trigger standard card charges.
