Short answer: fibre first, Starlink for gaps and backup
If your building already has fibre or 5G home wireless from e& or du, those remain the default choice. Starlink makes sense for a desert or farm site, a boat, a location with weak ground coverage, or as an independent backup line.
How the two connect
e& and du deliver internet over ground fibre or mobile towers, usually through a plug-in router or a 5G indoor unit. Starlink streams data from low Earth orbit satellites, around 550 km up, to a dish at your property that needs a clear view of the sky. Older geostationary satellites sit about 36,000 km away, which is why they lag far more.
Side by side
| Feature | e& and du | Starlink |

| Delivery | Ground fibre and 5G towers | Low Earth orbit satellites |
| Hardware | Indoor router or 5G unit | Outdoor dish and router, kit Dh1,465 |
| Monthly cost | Home wireless reported at about Dh229 (e&, before VAT) and Dh299 (du) | Dh300 residential |

| Latency | Low on fibre | Roughly 25 to 60 ms |
| Availability | Where fibre or 5G reaches | Address-specific, some areas at capacity |
Who should pick what
Choose e& or du if you live in a city apartment or villa with fibre or good 5G. It costs less, and does not need a dish.
Choose Starlink if ground networks do not reach you, if you work offshore or at sea, or if you want a second line that does not depend on local infrastructure. WhatsApp voice and video calls remain restricted over Starlink, as on other UAE connections.
