Daily UAE Cyberattacks Surge to 800,000 Amid Regional Threats
Daily cyberattacks targeting the nation have surged to reach between 600,000 and 800,000 attempts since February 28, prompting the UAE Cybersecurity Council to successfully intercept state-linked digital intrusions originating from Iran. Critical energy infrastructure, government services, and financial networks faced the brunt of the campaign, which utilized pre-built affiliate networks and wiper malware.
Dr. Mohammed Hamad Al Kuwaiti, Chairman of the UAE Cybersecurity Council, disclosed that the average daily volume of incursions tripled following the late-February threshold. The energy sector emerged as the primary target during the regional conflict, followed by government digital services and the financial industry. Attackers deployed wiper software designed to permanently erase or corrupt institutional data through the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its regional proxies, exploiting previously established infrastructure.
Ahead of the upcoming GISEC 2026 conference scheduled for September 16 to 18, the council affirmed that the country maintains robust defensive readiness. Officials emphasized that resilience is underpinned by trusted technological partnerships forged to counter advanced persistent threats.
