Raul Asencio Convicted of Drink-Driving After Testing Four Times Over Legal Limit
Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio has been convicted of drink-driving in Gran Canaria after recording an alcohol level nearly four times the legal limit. The 23-year-old centre-back now faces an eight-month driving suspension and a €14,400 fine as mounting legal controversies threaten his professional career.
A Gran Canaria court confirmed the conviction on Wednesday following an incident on August 16 in Southern Gran Canaria. Operating a Porsche, Asencio recorded a breath alcohol concentration of 0.90 mg/L, while Spain‘s legal threshold stands at 0.25 mg/L. The legal proceedings were handled through a trial held in San Bartolome de Tirajana.
Beyond the traffic conviction, additional legal challenges confront the young player. Asencio and three former Real Madrid reserve players are scheduled to appear in court for a separate trial concerning the alleged non-consensual sharing of a 2023 video featuring obscene acts involving two women. Spanish media reports indicate that Asencio anticipates potential clearance in the case if the two filmed individuals grant formal forgiveness.
At the time of the August traffic incident, Asencio was absent from the broader club squad while recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in late July. Meanwhile, incoming head coach Jose Mourinho has reportedly informed the defender that he falls outside the Portuguese manager’s sporting plans for the club.
