Emirates and Qatar Airways issued travel advisories following a major technical fault at the UK’s air traffic control provider NATS on Tuesday evening, disrupting flights across British airspace. International travelers and transit passengers face ongoing delays and potential rerouting while airlines manage schedule disruptions caused by the system failure.
System Resolution Starts Flight Clearance as NATS Fixes Processing Failure
Flights connecting Dubai and Doha hubs with major British airports, including London Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, and Stansted, faced disruptions, cancellations, and rerouting after NATS experienced a failure in its flight processing system. Emirates advised passengers to monitor operational updates, review flight statuses online, and verify contact details through its official booking portal before departing for the airport. Qatar Airways instructed travelers to monitor flight information via its website and mobile app while air traffic teams worked to clear the regional backlog.
Although NATS confirmed at 7:30pm UK time on Tuesday that its core processing system issue was resolved and operating normally, the air traffic controller warned that full network recovery would take time.
