Fox received the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the 78th Emmy Awards on September 15, 2026, for his transformative contributions to Parkinson’s disease research and advocacy. Television professionals and entertainment industry figures saw the five-time Emmy winner accept the honor from his *The Good Wife* co-star Julianna Margulies after receiving a standing ovation from the assembly.
Foundation Created in 2000 Continues Global Fight Against Disease
The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research has driven resources into treatment development since Fox established the organization in 2000, following his 1991 diagnosis at age 29. Fox was also nominated at the ceremony for guest actor in a comedy series for his role on *Shrinking*, a category won posthumously by Rob Reiner. Accepting Parkinson’s did not mean surrendering to it, Fox stated during his address, emphasizing that the diagnosis required doing everything possible for everyone living with the disease.
First awarded to Oprah Winfrey in 2002, the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award is conferred by the Television Academy and the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation to recognize industry figures whose philanthropic work leaves a lasting societal impact, following the previous year’s presentation to Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen.
