The Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai began processing all passport applications as e-passports on Friday 23 October 2026, so Pakistani nationals in the UAE now receive an electronic passport when they apply or renew. Fees start at Dh145 for a 36-page passport valid for five years with normal processing.
Holders of Machine Readable Passports do not need to replace them straight away. Valid passports stay valid until the expiry date printed in them, and the missions advise applying for renewal only when less than six months of validity remain. Applicants must have both a first name and a last name to be issued an e-passport, so anyone whose current passport shows a single name should check their details before booking. Fees are paid in dirhams and depend on the page count, the validity period, normal or urgent processing, and whether the document replaces a lost passport.
The launch was first announced for 20 July 2026 and was postponed on 19 July 2026 for what the embassy called technical and administrative reasons, with a new date to follow. The services have now started at both missions.
