New January 7 National Occasion to Launch Year-Round Community Programs
Across UAE neighborhoods, classrooms, and workplaces, a new date will anchor the national calendar starting in 2027. UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced the establishment of Zayed the Founder Day, an annual national occasion set for every January 7 to honor the life, values, and principles of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
How January 7 Will Touch Classrooms, Workplaces, and Community Routines
The January 7 date, written as 07/01, directly mirrors the nation’s roots, with seven representing the seven emirates and one evoking the 1971 founding year. Positioned at the start of the calendar year as students and workers return to their routines, the date functions as an active launchpad for ongoing programs rather than a single standalone day of remembrance.
For schools and universities, the day introduces targeted educational programs designed to connect younger generations with the core values that built the country. Public institutions, civic groups, and families can participate in year-round cultural, research, and community engagement initiatives coordinated through the official portal at www.zayedthefounderday.ae.
The national occasion officially begins its annual observance on January 7, 2027.
