AFC Asian Cup 2027 Shifted to December Following Regional Safety Concerns
The Asian Football Confederation postponed the 2027 AFC Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia on November 3, moving the tournament from its original January 2027 kickoff to a new window running from December 23, 2027, to January 21, 2028. The nearly year-long delay forces participating national squads and domestic competitions, including the UAE national team and the Saudi Roshn League, to overhaul their competitive schedules and training calendars.
Organisers Shift 24-Nation Tournament Across Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al Khobar
The UAE national team, led by head coach Zlatko Dalic, sees its Group E fixtures against Vietnam, Yemen, and South Korea deferred to the revised dates in late 2027. Domestic football calendars face immediate adjustments, with Saudi Roshn League clubs preparing to play regular league rounds during the originally planned January 2027 tournament window to maintain match readiness.
Saudi Arabia is hosting the tournament for the first time across eight venues in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al Khobar, where 24 nations will compete as Qatar enters the competition to defend its 2023 title.
