Six-Lane Al Khaleej Street Tunnel Opens to Ease Deira Bottlenecks
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority opened the 1,650-metre Al Khaleej Street Tunnel on November 8, 2026, creating uninterrupted travel between Infinity Bridge, Deira, and Al Mamzar. The six-lane infrastructure upgrade directly serves daily commuters, transport firms, and commercial drivers navigating Deira’s core urban corridors.
12,000-Vehicle Capacity Links Infinity Bridge Directly to Al Mamzar
The structure provides three lanes in each direction with a total capacity of 12,000 vehicles per hour, running from the end of the Infinity Bridge ramp to the junction of Al Khaleej Street and Al Wuheida Street. The free-flowing route eliminates surface congestion for vehicles heading toward Abu Hail, Al Wuheida, Al Mamzar, Dubai Islands, Waterfront Market, and Al Hamriya Port. To support the main passage, the Roads and Transport Authority is transforming roundabouts on Cairo Street and Al Wuheida Street into signalised intersections while linking the bridge ramp from Dubai Islands into the tunnel toward Al Mamzar. Project crews completed nearly 11 million work hours without lost-time injuries, recycling 77 per cent of the 522,000 cubic metres of excavated earth into ongoing infrastructure works.
The launch marks a key milestone in the broader 13-kilometre Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, which is designed to cut total travel times across the network from 1 hour and 44 minutes to 16 minutes by 2030.
