Employer Checklist for the 1st-of-the-Month WPS Deadline
Under MOHRE Ministerial Resolution No. 340 of 2026, a month’s wages must reach employees by the first day of the following month, through the Wage Protection System (WPS) or another MOHRE-approved channel. This card is the employer-side checklist. The rule itself is explained in our UAE salary payment rule guide.
Who it applies to
Private-sector establishments registered with MOHRE, whatever their size or industry. The resolution also raises the WPS compliance threshold from 80% to 85% of total wages due. Free-zone companies should confirm with their own authority whether the resolution applies to them.
Payroll checklist
- Work backwards from the 1st. Set dates for data collection, approvals, WPS file creation and bank processing so funds are credited, not just sent, by the 1st.
- Ask your bank for its transfer cut-off. Confirm how long WPS transfers take to clear.
- Plan the tricky months. When the 1st falls on a weekend or public holiday, pay earlier. Coverage of the resolution does not mention a holiday allowance.
- Keep proof of payment. Save WPS submission records and bank confirmations. Employers must be able to show payment to MOHRE.
- Watch for day-2 notices. MOHRE begins sending warnings to late-paying companies on day 2.
What late payment can lead to
| Days after due date | Possible MOHRE response |
|---|---|
| Day 2 | Notices and warnings |
| Day 5 | New work permits can be suspended |
| Day 11 | Administrative fines and third-category classification may apply for repeat breaches |
| Day 16 | Automatic labour disputes and wider permit restrictions |
| Day 21 | More serious measures, such as referral to the Public Prosecution, attachment and travel bans, may apply to larger or repeat offenders |
Later steps are at MOHRE’s discretion. Dirham fine amounts were not published with the resolution.
