The two UAE holidays moved in 2026
Under Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024, the Cabinet can move some mid-week public holidays to the start or end of the week. In 2026 it used that power twice, both times to create a three-day weekend.
| Holiday | Expected day | Observed day | Covered |
|---|---|---|---|
| Islamic New Year (1448 AH) | Tuesday 16 or Wednesday 17 June | Monday 15 June | Federal government and private sector |
| Prophet’s Birthday | Tuesday 25 August | Friday 28 August | Federal government and private sector |
The Islamic New Year move was announced on 3 June by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The Prophet’s Birthday move was confirmed by the UAE Government Media Office on 7 August.
What the rule does not allow
Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha cannot be moved, and a transfer is never automatic. It needs a Cabinet decision each time. The full rule is in our transfer rule guide.
