Islamic New Year holiday 2026: what the UAE announced

On 3 June 2026 the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announced Monday 15 June 2026 as the Islamic New Year holiday (Hijri New Year 1448) for federal government entities and private sector establishments. With the UAE’s Saturday and Sunday weekend, that made a three-day break from Saturday 13 to Monday 15 June, with work resuming on Tuesday 16 June.

Why Monday

The Hijri New Year itself was expected on 16 or 17 June, depending on moon sighting. The Cabinet moved the holiday to the start of the week under Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024.
