Toyota building Dubai demolition set for 2027 as tenants leave
Dec 2026 Move-Out Set for Sheikh Zayed Road’s Iconic Toyota Building
One of Sheikh Zayed Road’s oldest remaining visual anchors is preparing for its final chapter. Standing near what was once known as Defence Roundabout, the 15-storey residential building widely known as the Toyota building has held its place along Dubai’s main highway since 1974, when it was one of only three structures in the entire area. Its neon red Toyota sign has illuminated the corridor since 1981, serving as a nostalgic milestone for generations of commuters.
Tenants Face December 2026 Deadline Ahead of 2027 Teardown
Property manager NRL Group (Nasser Rashid Lootah Real Estate) has confirmed that the historic 15-storey residential tower is scheduled for demolition in 2027. Current residents with active lease contracts have been given until December 2026 to vacate their apartments and finalize their relocation arrangements.
The move marks the end of a long era for one of Dubai’s earliest residential towers. The building's famous rooftop sign previously came down in 2018 after an advertising contract expired, only to return in 2022 under a renewed agreement following public demand for its restoration. Specific details regarding what will eventually replace the tower on Sheikh Zayed Road have not been released by the property management firm.
Further announcements regarding redevelopment plans for the prime residential plot are expected as the 2027 teardown timeline approaches.

Dubai Global Financial Centre ranking jumps to 7th
Dubai Hits 7th Spot Globally as UAE FDI Reaches AED 177.3 Billion
Dubai climbed four places to rank seventh globally in the Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI 39) published by Z/Yen Group in partnership with the China Development Institute. The climb follows a record AED 177.3 billion ($48.3 billion) in foreign direct investment into the UAE during 2025, accelerating growth among international investment banks, asset managers, hedge funds, and financial technology firms operating across the country.
DIFC Active Firms Surpass 10,000 as Regulated Financial Entities Reach 1,134
Dubai International Financial Centre registered 10,018 active companies in the first half of 2026, marking a 30 per cent year-on-year expansion. Regulated financial firms based in the district rose 16 per cent to 1,134 entities, while specialized technology, fintech, and artificial intelligence companies expanded 39 per cent to reach 1,933 firms. Total employment within the financial zone has now passed 50,000 professionals.
Data from the UN Trade and Development World Investment Report 2026 shows foreign direct investment inflows into the UAE grew 6 per cent last year, positioning the nation as the world's ninth-largest recipient of foreign capital. The UAE also retained its standing as the second-largest global destination for greenfield investment projects for a third consecutive year, recording 1,562 announced developments.
His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stated that the seventh-place index result confirms international institutional trust in Dubai's regulatory framework and financial infrastructure.
The achievement marks the highest ranking ever attained by a financial centre in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. The progress advances the emirate toward its target under the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 to secure a position among the top four financial hubs worldwide by 2033.

Driverless Apollo Go Taxis Live on Uber Dubai
Dubai Driverless Taxis Enter Uber: How to Book Apollo Go in Jumeirah
Booking a fully autonomous ride across Jumeirah no longer requires a separate setup now that Apollo Go driverless vehicles are available directly inside the Uber app. Uber has partnered with autonomous operator Apollo Go to rollout driverless hailing in select parts of Dubai, giving commuters a direct way to request electric robotaxis alongside standard ride options.
Where driverless Uber rides are operational in Dubai
Autonomous rides currently operate exclusively in and around Jumeirah, serving the coastal stretch between Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Mosque. Both your pickup location and your destination must fall within this specific operational boundary for the self-driving option to appear on your route selection.
The service relies on Apollo Go’s sixth-generation RT6 vehicle, a purpose-built, fully electric robotaxi designed specifically for driverless trips. Each car carries up to three passengers and operates using more than 30 onboard sensors that feed real-time traffic data into an onboard processing system.
How to request and board a driverless taxi
- Set your pickup and drop-off points within the Jumeirah operating zone between Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Mosque in the Uber app.
- Select 'Autonomous' from the list of ride options if your route qualifies for driverless transit.
- Verify the vehicle's license plate, make, and model against the details shown in your Uber app when the car pulls up.
- Tap 'Unlock' directly inside the Uber app to release the doors, step inside, and start your journey.

Google Marvell stake option hits $12.2B in AI deal
Marvell shares jump 11% as Google secures option for $12.18B stake
Custom chipmaker Marvell Technology granted Alphabet's Google a warrant to acquire a stake valued at approximately $12.18 billion as the tech giants expand their partnership on custom artificial intelligence semiconductors. Semiconductor investors, rival chipmakers, and cloud infrastructure providers faced immediate market shifts as technology companies seek cost-effective alternatives to Nvidia's dominant graphics processing units.
Marvell stock surges 11% while competitor Broadcom drops on TPU deal expansion
Marvell shares surged more than 11% in premarket trading following the warrant announcement, while rival custom-chip supplier Broadcom dropped over 3%. Under the agreement, Marvell will help develop specialized hardware technologies for Google, including near-memory computing, to strengthen the capabilities of Google's proprietary Tensor Processing Units across its consumer products and cloud platform.
The expansion comes after Broadcom signed a long-term agreement with Google in April to supply future generations of custom AI chips through 2031.
