7 Seats and 204 HP: The Iconic Pajero Nameplate Returns for 2027
Five years after being parked, the Mitsubishi Pajero is officially back. Mitsubishi revealed the all-new 2027 Pajero on September 2, 2026, bringing the long-running nameplate back into the international lineup with serious off-road hardware and a focus on established four-wheel-drive rivals.
Known as the Mitsubishi Montero in select international markets, the updated vehicle takes direct aim at established family off-roaders like the Toyota Prado.
Serious Off-Road Hardware and Seven-Seat Utility
Underneath the body, the 2027 Pajero sits on a traditional, truck-based ladder-frame chassis designed for real off-road duty. Power comes from a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine. The setup delivers 204 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque.
To handle technical terrain, Mitsubishi equipped the vehicle with its Super Select 4WD-II system. On the practical side, the cabin retains a family-friendly layout featuring three rows of seating to accommodate seven passengers. In markets like Australia, this new ladder-frame turbo-diesel model serves as the direct successor to the Pajero Sport.
Global Rollout Across 100 Markets
The September 2 reveal marks the start of a broader multi-year global distribution strategy. From fiscal 2027 onward, Mitsubishi plans to introduce the all-new Pajero across approximately 100 countries worldwide.
Initial launch regions explicitly targeted in the expansion plan include markets across ASEAN and Latin America.
