The Algerian government ordered the diplomat to comply with the 48-hour exit window immediately following its announcement, prompting an official response from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stating it hopes the suspension of ties will prove temporary. Anwar Gargash, diplomat and advisor to the UAE President, stated that state relations are managed through reason, communication, and clear management of shared interests rather than ambiguous signals that require decoding. The ministry affirmed its continued appreciation for Algerian nationals living in and visiting the country, emphasizing that existing community bonds remain valued despite the decision by Algiers.
The diplomatic rupture follows a move in February when Algeria notified the UAE that it had begun terminating a 2013 bilateral Air Services Agreement, a procedural measure that the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority confirmed fell within established international frameworks without immediately disrupting flight traffic.
