80 Workers Terminated in 5-Minute Call After Remote Work Order
US financial technology firm Bluevine laid off around 80 members of its Indian customer support team without prior warning on September 17. The sudden terminations affected remote customer service representatives who were instructed to work from home for operational reasons just hours before being joined to a brief online meeting.
Five-Minute Call Ends Operations for Entire Service Unit
Eighty workers were stripped of their roles after team members were summoned to a 9:30pm Google Meet session three hours into their standard evening shift. Senior management informed the assembled customer service staff that the entire unit was fired because their output failed to meet performance expectations, an explanation disputed by affected staff who pointed to higher attrition rates and performance bottlenecks within the US-based teams. Bluevine has not issued a public statement addressing the claims surrounding the call.
Global technology sector job cuts have approached 154,000 in 2026 amid ongoing corporate restructurings and automated operational shifts.
