Diesel Prices Under Threat as Kyiv Defies Washington to Hit Russian Oil
US President Donald Trump issued a public rebuke of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky following Kyiv’s decision to launch drone strikes on Russian oil refineries despite explicit opposition from Washington. Global energy markets and commodity traders faced renewed diesel market volatility after Ukrainian forces targeted the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal over the weekend, effectively terminating a short-lived bilateral energy ceasefire.
Kyiv hit Russian energy infrastructure following 76 strikes on Ukraine’s national power grid
Drone manufacturer Fire Point confirmed its long-range systems initiated a fire at Russia’s St. Petersburg Oil Terminal, escalating global supply pressures on refined fuels. Ukrainian officials reported resuming actions against Russian refining capacity after recording 76 separate Russian attacks on Ukraine’s domestic energy infrastructure since the halt was announced, alongside Washington’s approval of waivers on Russian diesel imports.
The diplomatic rift follows an October 6 sea-drone strike that set fire to the Liberia-flagged Aframax Rio oil tanker near Sochi, marking a broader campaign against Russian petroleum supply chains.
