Donald Trump Endorses Netanyahu Ahead of October 27 Election
US President Donald Trump issued a full endorsement on Sunday for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of Israel‘s October 2026 parliamentary election, praising his role in the joint strikes on Iran earlier this year. Israeli voters and political factions face a fractured political environment where the prime minister is chosen through coalition-building rather than a direct popular vote.
Netanyahu is fighting to retain power for his right-wing Likud party amid a highly competitive race following the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack and subsequent regional conflicts across Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran. Polls show no single candidate holds a clear path to a parliamentary majority.
Writing on Truth Social, Trump lauded Netanyahu as a “great warrior prime minister” who remained steadfast through immense political pressure. Yet, analysts note the endorsement may carry limited weight among Israeli voters due to declining public support for Trump inside Israel and ongoing policy disagreements regarding Iran.
The upcoming ballot marks Israel’s first national vote since the outbreak of regional hostilities that have disrupted global energy markets and strained economies across the Middle East over the past seven months.
