Sub-5-Second DXB Clearance Wins Top Government Innovation Award
Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3 is eliminating the traditional border control pause entirely. The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai was awarded the Dubai-it Award in the Government Projects category on Tuesday for its AI-driven ‘Red Carpet’ smart corridor, which allows travelers to walk straight through passport control in under five seconds without presenting physical travel documents or coming to a stop.
Document-Free Processing Expands Across Terminal 3
Developed in collaboration with Dubai Airports, the smart corridor relies on artificial intelligence and biometric facial recognition to clear up to 10 travelers simultaneously instead of bottlenecking passengers in single-file queues. The operational shift has increased immigration handling capacity tenfold while driving recorded passenger satisfaction rates past 99 percent. Authorities plan to expand the smart corridor setup across Terminal 3 to cover both arriving and departing travelers.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum presented the award to the project team to recognize the system’s impact on international travel speeds.
