16.5kg Gold Earrings On Display After Breaking Two World Records
At the Jewel of Joy showroom in the Dubai Gold District, a massive pair of 22-carat handcrafted jhumka earrings is now open for public viewing after setting two official world records.
Where to See the World’s Largest Gold Jhumkas
The piece, named Mayura Sahasra or “A Thousand Peacocks,” sits inside Joyalukkas Jewellery’s flagship location in the heart of the historic gold trade center. Visitors and shoppers heading to the district can see the display up close following its official unveiling on October 24, 2026.
Weighing a combined 16.514kg, the pair officially claimed titles for both the heaviest pair of gold earrings and the largest pair of gold earrings. That combined weight is more than five times the previous world record.
The physical dimensions stand out immediately in the showroom. The earrings measure 1.215 metres in length and 0.682 metres in diameter. Handcrafted over several months, the project required 5,840 hours of focused labor from a team of 55 skilled artisans.
Designed in the traditional South Asian bridal jhumka style, the detailed gold work draws inspiration from peacock plumage and the regional legend of a divine bird shedding a thousand feathers. Official certificates for both records were presented on site by a Guinness World Records adjudicator alongside UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Joyalukkas Group Chairman Dr. Joy Alukkas, and CEO John Paul Alukkas.
The Mayura Sahasra earrings remain on permanent public display at the Jewel of Joy showroom in the Dubai Gold District.
