Ballon d'Or Winner Kane Hits Crossbar as Bayern Draw 2-2 With Dortmund
Newly crowned Ballon d’Or winner Harry Kane struck the crossbar from the penalty spot as Bayern Munich settled for a 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. Bundesliga title contenders Bayern Munich missed the opportunity to solidify their lead at the top of the standings after dropping points despite twice taking the lead.
Crossbar denial marks only second Bundesliga spot-kick failure for England captain
Bayern Munich opened the scoring in the 38th minute when Konrad Laimer converted a rebound past Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. Kane earned a spot-kick in the 56th minute after his shot struck the hand of Felix Nmecha inside the penalty area, but his effort hit the crossbar, recording just his second missed penalty in 27 Bundesliga attempts. Serhou Guirassy equalised for Dortmund four minutes later, before Kane set up Dayot Upamecano with a 66th-minute header to briefly restore Bayern’s lead prior to Dortmund’s second equaliser.
The fixture marked Kane’s first match since receiving the 2026 Ballon d’Or award for the best male footballer at London’s Palladium Theatre on October 26, 2026.
