UAE Iran US War: Braced For The Worst Amid Indirect Negotiations
The United Arab Emirates is hoping for a diplomatic breakthrough in indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States while remaining braced for potential regional conflict escalation, a senior official said on Sunday. Speaking at the IISS Manama Dialogue, diplomatic adviser to the UAE president Anwar Gargash stated that it is not in the region’s interest to go through another round of conflict.
Iranian envoys have traveled to the Gulf following a visit to Tehran this week by a Qatari delegation, continuing indirect consultations with Washington aimed at ending the war. The diplomatic push runs parallel to ongoing military threats and strategic positioning across the region.
US President Donald Trump reiterated on Saturday that the United States still has to address one or two targets in Iran. Addressing the same Manama conference on Sunday, US Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs Donald Blome emphasized that negotiation channels remain open and active. However, Blome also confirmed that Washington remains prepared to go in another direction if necessary, noting that the region and the global economy cannot be held hostage.
