Thousands of Disney Jobs at Risk as Managers Face 20% Cost Reduction Target
Walt Disney is considering thousands of job cuts as part of a directive instructing managers to slash operating costs by 20 per cent in select divisions. The planned workforce reductions and operational expense cuts threaten staff across the entertainment giant’s film studios, television networks, and global theme park operations.
Corporate Restructuring Targets Deeper Savings Across Parks, Studios, and Networks
Managers across individual business units are tasked with identifying 20 per cent annual budget reductions, targeting operational expenses and headcount to generate fresh capital. Savings from the potential job cuts are slated for reinvestment into core film and television programming, technology, theme parks, and cruise ship operations as corporate leadership pursues double-digit growth in adjusted earnings per share. Disney employed approximately 231,000 people worldwide at the end of its previous financial year, though company representatives declined to confirm the exact number or timeline of positions to be eliminated.
The proposed workforce reductions follow a 2023 restructuring programme in which Disney eliminated 7,000 positions to trim $5.5 billion in costs, alongside recent operational realignments across units including ABC, Pixar, and ESPN.
