Record $6.3 Billion Binance Hack Tops History as Exchange Freezes Half
A $6.3 billion security breach at Binance has marked the largest heist in cryptocurrency history, forcing the world’s largest exchange to mobilize technical partners to trace compromised digital assets. Binance co-founder Yi He announced that the platform will cover all hacking losses after operations teams, working alongside security partners, managed to locate and freeze approximately $3 billion of the affected funds.
Exchange locates $3 billion while pledging full compensation for remaining losses
Binance has confirmed the recovery and freezing of roughly $3 billion of the compromised assets, though platform officials have not provided an update on the status of the remaining $3.3 billion.
The breach eclipses the previous industry record set in February 2025, when attackers extracted $1.5 billion in digital tokens from cryptocurrency exchange Bybit’s offline cold wallet. Other major historic exploits include the $610 million Poly Network hack in August 2021, the $540 million Ronin Network breach linked to Axie Infinity in March 2022, and the $530 million Coincheck exploit in January 2018.
