Fourteen wounded individuals, including a girl with third-degree burns, were transferred to medical facilities in La Paz after the detonation damaged dozens of homes and shattered windows at around 2:30 p.m. local time. The blast originated from a defense ministry fireworks stockpile housed inside the facility, though the official cause of the ignition remains under investigation. Firefighters deployed to the military complex identified an active heat source lingering at the scene, leading Viacha health director Rita Nebraska to advise nearby residents to stay at least 150 metres clear of the site due to the risk of secondary explosions.
