Seventy-seven-year-old music icon Lionel Richie was admitted to an intensive care unit in St. Louis following his August 29 concert performance at The Muny in Forest Park. Music fans and concertgoers face growing concern over the tour’s trajectory as doctors evaluate potential dehydration after the singer struggled on stage during his final song.
Precautionary Admission Follows On-Stage Physical Distress During Final Song
During the final number of his set, Richie braced himself against his piano and was forced to sit down to finish the show. Attending medical teams subsequently placed the multi-Grammy-winning artist into intensive care as a precaution, with doctors investigating mild dehydration as the underlying cause following the outdoor performance. Richie has been co-headlining a national tour alongside Earth, Wind & Fire, which launched in June. Representatives for the singer have not released an official medical statement beyond the dehydration reports.
The St. Louis hospitalization marks the second stage incident for Richie this summer, following a June performance that was cut short after he experienced a dizzy spell mid-show.
