Ramadan 2027 Expected February 8 as UAE Moon Forecasts Align
The start of Jumada Al Awwal marks exactly four lunar months until Ramadan, placing the expected start of the holy month on Monday, February 8, 2027, subject to official moon-sighting confirmation.
Four-Month Countdown Begins Across UAE Neighborhoods
With astronomical calculations pointing to a February start, local households are looking at a 121-day timeline before the fast begins. Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomical Society and member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, confirmed that the astronomical new moon occurs at approximately 7.50pm UAE time on Saturday, October 10.
Al Jarwan noted that the crescent could be visible to the naked eye on Sunday evening, October 11, making Monday, October 12, the expected first day of Jumada Al Awwal 1448 AH. According to astronomical projections, Ramadan will last 29 or 30 days, setting the anticipated dates for Eid Al Fitr on Tuesday, March 9, or Wednesday, March 10, 2027.
Meanwhile, the Sharjah Space and Astronomy Hub, affiliated with the University of Sharjah, offered a nuanced technical breakdown regarding visibility. The hub reported that central conjunction occurs at 7.50pm on Saturday, October 10, while topocentric conjunction, calculated specifically for Sharjah’s geographical coordinates, takes place at 8.47pm UAE time.
The hub’s analysis indicates that the crescent marking Jumada Al Awwal will not be visible to the naked eye or through standard optical telescopes after sunset on Sunday, October 11, though advanced astrophotography could detect it before sunset. Consequently, nations relying strictly on post-sunset optical sightings may mark the new lunar month on Tuesday, October 13, whereas those utilizing calculation-assisted sightings will start on Monday, October 12.
Official dates across the UAE will be formally announced closer to the time following official moon-sighting committee observations.
