Nearly 1,800 Arrests and 500 Police Injuries Reported Across French Cities
Looters targeted high-end retail venues including Marseille’s Rolex and Hermès outlets alongside luxury storefronts in Paris and Bordeaux, causing structural damage to commercial districts and public buildings. Demonstrations drew over 500,000 participants nationwide, where clashes in Paris resulted in the death of one protester from cardiac arrest while President Emmanuel Macron vowed full prosecution for all individuals involved in vandalism and theft.
The surge in destruction follows weeks of student-led demonstrations over deteriorating educational conditions and broader national economic strain.
