UAE Misinformation Triggers New AI Monitoring Tools Online
Scrolling through morning news feeds across the UAE has become trickier as digital content grows harder to verify. When fake audio and altered videos pop up in family group chats, separating fact from fiction takes more than a quick glance.
To tackle the shift, the International Centre for Combating Media Disinformation rolled out a new monitoring system in August 2026. The platform tracks keywords, distribution patterns, and emerging narratives across digital channels, using artificial intelligence alongside professional media expertise to verify content.
The timing matters for anyone relying on connectivity day-to-day. Data from the International Telecommunication Union shows internet use in the UAE hit 100 percent during 2024, meaning false material travels quickly through messaging apps and social platforms. Local numbers reflect that exposure. A survey by the UAE Cyber Security Council found that 50 percent of respondents believed they ran into an AI-related scam during 2024, while 56 percent reported getting at least one scam attempt every month.
Earlier tech investments set the groundwork for these upgrades. In May 2025, the UAE Media Council signed an agreement with Presight to build a unified media analytics platform designed to inspect content before publication and aid regulatory reviews.
Deepfakes have added a layer of complexity to everyday scrolling, as generated voices and altered videos can spread faster than fact-checkers can respond. To stay ahead of unverified claims in local feeds, residents can rely on a few basic checks. Search headlines through established news organisations, track down original sources for major public claims, run reverse image searches on suspicious photos, check video upload dates, and compare screenshots with official statements.
A quick source check remains the most reliable defense against misleading material traveling across local networks.
