5 Big Changes and Events Coming to the UAE in November
Autumn is bringing cooler weather across the UAE, and with the drop in temperatures comes a fresh slate of schedule shifts, fitness events, and transit updates. From adjusted speed limits on major roads to early station openings and major fitness dates, here are 5 key things changing across the UAE this November.
1. Speed Limits Shift on 5 Dubai Roads
Motorists will need to check their speedometers starting November 1, as limits change across five major routes in both directions.
Maximum speeds are dropping on two stretches. Al Rebat Street drops from 100 to 90 km/h between Marrakech Street and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, while Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street moves from 80 to 70 km/h between 2nd December Street and Khalid bin Al Waleed Street.
At the same time, limits are climbing on three corridors. Al Asayel Street jumps from 60 to 80 km/h between Oud Maitha Street and Al Meydan Street. Al Mustaqbal Street moves from 60 to 70 km/h between Sheikh Rashid Street and Al Meydan Street, and Latifa bint Hamdan Street increases from 60 to 70 km/h between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road.
2. The Dubai Fitness Challenge Returns for Its 10th Edition
Fitness enthusiasts have a full month of community events mapped out from October 31 to November 29.
The milestone tenth edition opens with Dubai Ride on November 1, transforming the city’s roads into a massive cycling track. The action then heads to Hatta Dam for the Dubai Stand-Up Paddle on November 7 and 8.
The flagship Dubai Run takes over the city streets on November 22, before the month-long initiative wraps up with a large-scale Dubai Yoga session on November 29.
3. Two New Etihad Rail Stations Open in Al Dhafra
Inter-emirate connectivity takes a step forward at the end of the month when Zayed City and Liwa stations open their doors on November 30.
The launch of both Al Dhafra region stations was brought forward by one month following a decision by the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The early opening is timed to coincide with the start of the local festival season, with additional Al Dhafra stations scheduled to follow on December 20.
4. St. Regis Dubai, The Palm Reopens After Major Refurbishment
One of Palm Jumeirah’s most prominent luxury hotels is welcoming guests back on November 1 after closing its doors on April 12.
The property shut down guest rooms, spas, and core services mid-April for extensive renovations. Management notes that the St. Regis Bar sits at the center of the redesigned space as the hotel resumes operations.
5. Veterinary Ban on Ciprofloxacin Takes Effect
Pet owners and livestock handlers will see a major regulatory shift starting November 1 as a ban on the veterinary use of ciprofloxacin goes into effect.
Authorities introduced the restriction to combat antimicrobial resistance and protect the efficacy of human medical treatments. The fluoroquinolone group of antibiotics is classified as critically important for human medicine in treating specific bacterial infections, making the removal of animal use a vital public health safeguard.
