Congressional Review Begins for $5 Billion Munitions Transfer
The agreement supplies precision airborne munitions and targeting equipment to enhance Saudi defense integration alongside US forces and partner militaries in the Gulf region. The State Department has formally notified Congress of the determination, placing final clearance with US lawmakers before manufacturing and weapons transfers can proceed. Officials designated the authorization as a move to strengthen the homeland security of a Major non-NATO Ally and bolster regional deterrence.
The approval follows repeated drone and missile strikes targeting Saudi territory by Iranian forces and Yemen’s Tehran-backed Houthi rebels since military conflict erupted between US-Israeli forces and Iran earlier this year.
