New UAE Family Visa Rules: Age Limits for Sponsoring Sons and Daughters

As of September 5, 2022, the UAE’s family visa rules have been updated, introducing new age limits for sponsoring sons and daughters. According to Cabinet Resolution No. 65 of 2022, sons can now remain under their parents’ sponsorship until the age of 25 without needing to provide annual proof of university enrollment. This change aims to simplify the sponsorship process for families and allow them to stay together for longer.

The new rules affect UAE residents who sponsor their children as dependents. Sons up to 25 years old can remain under their parents’ sponsorship without any additional requirements. However, sons aged over 25 may continue under sponsorship if they are studying full-time in a higher education program, subject to approval by the immigration authority. Unmarried daughters can remain sponsored regardless of age, provided they remain unmarried.

Golden Visa holders are exempt from these age thresholds entirely. If a parent holds a 10-year Golden Visa, they can sponsor their children regardless of age. Additionally, children with special needs can be sponsored in accordance with the regulations issued by the Chairman of the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP), regardless of age.

When sponsoring children, parents should note that any child above the age of 18 will need to take a medical fitness test. This requirement is part of the sponsorship process and ensures that all dependents meet the necessary health standards.

The updated family visa rules offer more flexibility for families and provide clarity on the sponsorship process. Parents can now plan for their children’s future with more certainty, knowing the age limits and requirements for sponsorship.
