30-Minute Emergency Return Permit Available for UAE Golden Visa Holders Abroad
Losing a passport while travelling outside the UAE usually triggers an immediate administrative nightmare, but long-term residents now have a streamlined emergency backup. If you hold a valid UAE Golden Visa and your passport is lost or damaged overseas, you can secure a temporary entry document online in as little as 30 minutes.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) provides this emergency return permit free of charge to help residents head straight back to the UAE, where standard passport replacement procedures can be handled locally.
Essential Features of the Emergency Permit
The document is designed strictly as a single-entry emergency bridge back to the UAE rather than a temporary travel visa. It remains valid for seven days from issuance and can only be used to board a flight returning directly to the UAE, it does not permit transit or entry into third countries.
The service operates 24/7 through official digital channels, eliminating the need to wait for physical embassy operating hours abroad.
Who Qualifies for Coverage
Primary Golden Visa holders can apply for the emergency document for themselves whenever a passport is lost, stolen, or structurally damaged during overseas travel. Their residency status must remain active and valid at the time of application.
Dependents under 18 years old who are sponsored under the primary Golden Visa holder’s residency are also covered by the service. As long as the dependent’s residence visa remains valid, the primary holder can submit an application on their behalf to bring them back to the UAE without securing traditional emergency travel papers from a home country consulate first.
How to Obtain the Entry Document
Applications are submitted digitally via official digital portals provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (mofa.gov.ae).
Applicants need to log into the portal, select the return permit service for Golden Visa holders, upload the necessary details showing proof of their identity and valid residency, and submit the request. Processing takes approximately 30 minutes, after which the single-use permit is issued electronically for immediate travel booking.
