Montenegro Visa for UAE Residents: The 10-Day Exemption and What Applies Now
Montenegro ran a temporary exemption that let eligible UAE residents enter without a visa for up to 10 days. It applied from 1 May to 1 October 2026 and has now lapsed, with no extension reported. Whether you need a visa today depends mainly on your passport and on any other visa or residence permit you hold, not on UAE residency alone.
What the temporary exemption required
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Residence permit | Valid UAE residence held for at least three consecutive years |
| Flight | Direct flight from the UAE |
| Documents | Valid passport or travel document, and confirmation of a tourist programme or booking |
| Maximum stay | 10 days |
Travellers could show their residence history with previous Emirates ID cards, historical records on the ICP Smart Services portal or in the ICP app through UAE Pass, or printed copies of earlier residency records from an Amer centre.
What applies now
- Passports on Montenegro’s visa-free list: Emirati citizens and some other nationalities can stay up to 90 days without a visa.
- Other visas and permits: reports say holders of a valid visa or residence permit from the Schengen area, the US, the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, Japan or New Zealand can stay up to 30 days, but not beyond the expiry of that document.
- Everyone else: a Montenegrin short-stay visa is needed. Indian, Pakistani, Filipino and Bangladeshi passport holders without a qualifying document are among those who need one.
Applying for a visa from the UAE
Applications go through the Montenegrin Embassy in Abu Dhabi or VFS Global centres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Reports give a consular fee of EUR 35 plus VFS service charges, a 10-day statutory processing period that can extend to 30 days, and these key documents: a passport with at least two blank pages, a photo, proof of purpose, proof of at least EUR 50 per day, travel health insurance and proof of fee payment.
Montenegro’s entry rules changed several times in 2026, so confirm the current position with the embassy, VFS Global or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before booking. For trip budgeting, see our Montenegro travel costs guide.
