UAE Holds Iran Fully Responsible After Intercepted Drone Attack
The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Foreign Affairs held Iran fully responsible for a drone attack intercepted by air defence systems over the country’s territorial waters on Monday, August 31, 2026. Officials described the incident as a dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
Air defences remain on high alert, monitoring regional airspace around the clock following the interception. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the hostile actions threaten the safety of citizens, residents, and visitors, violating both international law and the UN Charter. Earlier on August 18, UAE air defences detected two ballistic missiles launched from Iran that targeted maritime navigation routes.
Amid online speculation, authorities categorically denied reports claiming that Dubai’s Al Minhad Air Base had been targeted in the security incident. Officials urged the public to source updates strictly through official channels and avoid spreading unverified information.
The regional tensions erupted after the United States launched strikes against Iranian rocket launchers on Larak island in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday. In retaliation, Iran targeted US military positions in Jordan, prompting a separate condemnation from the UAE over the violation of Jordanian sovereignty. The UAE government stressed that it will not tolerate threats to its security under any circumstances and maintains the full right to respond to safeguard its borders.
