DXB's New Mobile Passport Checks Take Just 15 Seconds
Dubai International Airport (DXB) terminals are getting a flexible upgrade for anyone catching a flight or heading home through the concourses. The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs, Dubai (GDRFA Dubai) has officially rolled out a system called Click and Travel, which brings passport control directly to passengers on the terminal floor instead of keeping everyone stuck at a fixed counter.
Skipping the queue when DXB terminals get packed
You won’t find officers roaming around for every single traveler on a quiet morning. GDRFA Dubai designed the mobile service to kick in when terminal traffic spikes, handling peak travel periods, long queues, or heavy passenger rushes. When active, officers use mobile devices and biometric verification to complete entry or departure procedures right where you stand in 12 to 15 seconds.
During this initial rollout phase, the mobile checks cover UAE citizens and UAE residents, with plans to loop in visitors on tourist visas down the line. It doesn’t spell the end for smart gates or the Red Carpet tunnel either, the system simply gives airport teams another operational tool when crowds pile up. Families, children, and people of determination receive priority when the system is deployed to clear heavy terminal jams.
The technology already put in heavy reps during a trial run between May and August 31, 2026, processing 31,373 transactions before hitting the general terminal floor. Because the service scales up based on operational demand rather than a fixed schedule, travellers cannot request a roving check on demand.
