Dh1 Million Fines Target Five Critical UAE Labour Law Violations
Private sector employers operating in the UAE face financial penalties ranging from Dh100,000 to Dh1 million for non-compliance with statutory employment regulations. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) issued an explicit warning targeting five specific illegal practices surrounding workforce management and permit usage.
Business Owners and Private Sector Companies Affected
The advisory directly targets all private sector establishments operating within the UAE. Company founders, LLC managers, and corporate leadership must ensure full compliance with labour regulations before onboarding staff, reassigning duties, or halting corporate operations.
The Ministry identified five specific infractions that trigger the maximum penalty scale:
- Unpermitted Employment: Onboarding or hiring any worker without first securing an official work permit from MOHRE.
- Idle Workforce Recruitment: Importing or employing a worker and subsequently failing to provide them with active employment.
- Permit Diversion: Utilizing active work permits for tasks or roles outside the explicit purposes for which MOHRE issued them.
- Unresolved Business Closure: Shutting down or suspending an establishment’s commercial operations without legally settling the employment status and rights of its workforce.
- Illegal Underage Employment: Hiring a minor in breach of UAE Labour Law, or without obtaining explicit consent from the minor’s legal guardian in accordance with statutory conditions.
