JP Morgan Expands Into DIFC With New Private Banking Branch
J.P. Morgan Private Bank opened a new branch in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) on November 2 to serve clients across the UAE and the wider Middle East, following a tripling of its local private banking team over the past 12 months. Wealthy clients and regional financial institutions engage with an expanding wealth sector as the firm establishes its dedicated local platform.
Regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA), the branch adds private banking to a footprint that spans a 20-year history of corporate and investment banking within the DIFC, alongside asset management services through J.P. Morgan International Advisors. The move extends an operational relationship with the UAE lasting more than five decades.
The bank staffed up significantly in readiness for the authorization, more than tripling its Dubai-based private banking team over the past year. Selim Elgen serves as UAE Market Head and Senior Executive Officer, and Karim Rekik acts as Regional Head, Middle East at J.P. Morgan Private Bank. Arif Amiri, CEO of DIFC Authority, stated that the expansion reinforces Dubai’s position as a global hub for private wealth.
The new branch enters a crowded competitive field featuring Julius Baer, UBS, Pictet, Goldman Sachs, Citi Private Bank, HSBC, and Emirates NBD. Private wealth management across the country is expanding rapidly, driven by families and family offices seeking asset holding, portfolio management, and credit services. The DIFC recorded 1,408 family-related entities at the end of the first half of 2026, marking a 36% increase from the previous year according to Q2 results filed in July.
