UAE Family Offices Hit No. 1 Globally as DIFC Entities Surge 36%
The glass-and-steel corridors of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) have quietly become the world’s most sought-after address for generational wealth. According to a new report from the Global Intelligence Unit of Global Citizen Solutions, the UAE has captured the top global ranking for emerging family office destinations, pulling in an overall score of 74 points.
The country notched a perfect score of 100 in both regulation and taxation, alongside 78 points for its financial ecosystem, the highest mark recorded among emerging destinations worldwide. Behind the UAE, Qatar took second place, followed by India in third, Malaysia in fourth, and Italy in fifth.
That regulatory environment isn’t just a talking point on paper; it’s reshaping the ground level across Dubai’s financial zones. By the end of June 2026, the DIFC officially recorded 1,408 family-related entities, marking a 36% leap compared to the same period last year.
Specialized legal structures are driving that momentum. Both the DIFC’s Family Arrangements Regulations and the frameworks maintained at the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) give ultra-high-net-worth families dedicated legal toolkits to manage their assets and secure smooth intergenerational wealth transfers. Pair those frameworks with a tax regime featuring zero personal income tax and a statutory zero rate on wealth transfers to the next generation, and the local pull becomes clear.
The growth extends beyond specialized legal zones. In the 2026 Z/Yen Partners classification, Dubai climbed to seventh place globally among financial centres, cementing its role as a heavyweight in international wealth management. While the financial ecosystem is mature, the DIFC itself was established back in 2004 and rolled out its family office framework in 2008, the index classifies the UAE as an emerging destination because of how rapidly it built targeted regulatory frameworks specifically tailored to the industry.
Global trends are pushing families to spread their footprint across borders. Citing the UBS Global Family Office Report 2026, researchers noted that 88% of family offices hold investable financial assets in two or more countries. Patricia Casaburi, founder and CEO of Global Citizen Solutions, pointed out that cross-border mobility has turned into a core diversification strategy for families managing their assets and residency statuses side by side.
