Strait Blocked as US Posts $20M Reward for Iranian Nuclear Data
Tehran has asserted complete control over the Strait of Hormuz, declaring the vital global oil waterway will remain closed to commercial traffic until the United States meets its strategic demands. Iranian army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia confirmed that armed forces are on higher alert and possess greater combat capability than at the outbreak of hostilities eight months ago, following direct military engagements with American and Israeli forces. The operational lockdown targets a shipping lane that routinely handles approximately one-fifth of worldwide petroleum consumption, posing immediate logistics challenges for global energy markets and maritime freight operators.
Washington Offers $20 Million for Intelligence on Nuclear Facilities
The United States military, acting through the State Department’s Rewards for Justice programme, announced a $20 million bounty alongside potential relocation assistance for actionable information detailing Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Distributed via US Central Command, the incentive targets critical intelligence regarding facilities, specialized equipment, and key personnel within the scientific community. Federal authorities noted that non-compliance with International Atomic Energy Agency safeguard obligations resulted in a loss of oversight regarding centrifuge manufacturing and material inventories.
Military activity continues near the key shipping channel following reports from Iranian state media that air defence batteries intercepted and destroyed an American drone over Qeshm Island. Regional mediation remains active, with Qatari leadership facilitating diplomatic communications between Washington and Tehran to mitigate further escalation. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian indicated that national leadership continues seeking a non-military resolution to the crisis, even as Iranian defense officials warn that military retaliatory strikes remain authorized without geographic restrictions under orders from the Supreme Leader.
The current direct confrontation erupted in late February when joint American and Israeli strikes targeted installations inside Iran, initiating an eight-month military campaign across the Middle East.
