Per Capita Solar Output to Reach 4,000 kWh as Nation Tops Global Standings
The United Arab Emirates is projected to become the world’s largest per capita producer of solar energy by 2031, according to the International Energy Agency’s 2026 renewable energy report. Energy sector investors and power producers face a rapidly expanding market as total renewable capacity across the Middle East is expected to triple over the next six years.
Per Capita Solar Generation Target Set at 4,000 Kilowatt-Hours
The International Energy Agency forecasts the UAE’s per capita solar energy generation will reach 4,000 kilowatt-hours over the next six years, placing the nation ahead of Australia, Oman, Bulgaria, and Qatar in global rankings. This projected production figure stands well above the anticipated global average of roughly 800 kilowatt-hours per person by 2031, coinciding with a worldwide expansion where overall renewable electricity generation capacity is expected to grow 85 percent.
The projections build on official policy updates delivered at the Middle East Energy Summit in September 2026, where Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Al Mazrouei announced the UAE raised its combined clean energy target, encompassing renewable and nuclear sources, to 35 percent by 2030-2031.
