Suspect Held in Athens Suitcase Murder of UK National
Greek police have arrested a 26-year-old man, identified as an Afghan national, in connection with the murder of a British woman whose body was found in a suitcase in Athens this month. The victim, 38-year-old Elisabeth-Jane Ross from Scotland, had been residing in Greece since June 26 and was reported missing. The suspect, who has confessed to his actions, faces charges including intentional homicide, robbery, and violation of firearms legislation.
The police investigation revealed that the suspect had placed the victim’s body in a suitcase and transported it to an abandoned building in the Kypseli area, where it was discovered on July 18. Furthermore, the suspect used the victim’s bank cards to withdraw money in the days following her death. Interpol authorities in the US and liaison officers from the UK National Crime Agency and Scotland police cooperated in the investigation, which led to the identification of the victim’s fingerprints despite advanced decomposition and adverse environmental conditions.
The Kypseli area, where the body was found, is a significant location in the investigation. The police have not disclosed the exact circumstances of the victim’s death, but the suspect’s confession and the evidence collected during the investigation have led to the charges against him.
This case is reminiscent of a similar incident in Thailand, where an Australian man was charged with the murder of a Thai teenager found dead in a suitcase.
