Arsenal and England winger Bukayo Saka was awarded the Socrates Trophy at the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony at the Palladium Theatre in London on October 26, 2026. The 25-year-old forward received the honor in recognition of extensive medical and housing initiatives supporting vulnerable children and families across Africa and Türkiye, drawing praise from international humanitarian groups and sports organizations.
Medical funding and disaster relief drive international honors for Arsenal forward
Working alongside his family and the charity BigShoe, Saka funded 120 surgeries for children in Kano, Nigeria, in 2022, followed by medical treatments for another 100 children across Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania. His philanthropic contributions also provided shelter for 26 families displaced by the 2023 earthquakes in Türkiye, alongside specialized vision treatment for individual youth including 14-year-old Rwandan student Biringiro.
The award draws a direct historic link to Brazilian midfielder Sócrates, who championed democratic movement reform during the 1980s alongside newly re-elected Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
