Tom Cruise Confirms Days of Thunder 2 for June 2028 Release at Daytona
Actor Tom Cruise officially confirmed the production of *Days of Thunder 2* at Daytona International Speedway ahead of the NASCAR Cup Series regular-season finale. Moviegoers and motorsport enthusiasts will see Cruise reprise his role as race-car driver Cole Trickle when Paramount Pictures releases the action sequel in theaters on June 2, 2028.
Anne Hathaway Joins Cast as Jonathan Levine Directs Sequel
Anne Hathaway co-stars as a NASCAR team owner and engineer, with Jonathan Levine directing from a screenplay written by Will Staples. Cruise produces the feature alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper, pitching the project directly to NASCAR executives, drivers, sponsors, and military personnel during the pre-race meeting at Daytona. Production details reflect a close collaboration with the racing world, supported by four-time Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon, currently serving as vice chairman at Hendrick Motorsports. Recalling his experience filming the original movie’s high-speed sequences at Daytona, Cruise noted operating cameras at 180 miles per hour on the track’s backstraight when his vehicle caught fire.
The project follows years of development after initial reports in November 2024 indicated Cruise had begun discussions with Paramount Pictures to revisit his 1990 stock-car racing film.
