Fix Emirates ID Renewal Issues
If your Emirates ID renewal has been rejected or is stuck, the cause is usually one of a handful of fixable problems. For the full process and fees, see our Emirates ID renewal guide.
Common causes and fixes
- Photograph problems: The photo must be recent (no older than six months), have a plain light background and meet ICAO standards. Eyes must be clearly visible, with no flash reflection or tinted lenses. Upload a fresh, compliant photo.
- Passport details do not match: A wrong passport number, expiry date or name spelling will block the application. Check every detail against the passport page.
- Residence visa not renewed: The Emirates ID is tied to your residence visa, so renew the visa first or at the same time.
- Missed biometrics: If you missed your fingerprint and photo appointment, rebook it as soon as possible.
- Incomplete information or documents: Fill every required field and attach all documents before submitting.
- Pending modification requests: An unfinished change, such as a name or passport update, can hold up the renewal. Complete it first.
- Wrong contact details: An invalid phone number or email means you may miss status updates. Update them in your ICP profile.
