FBI Foils Daesh-Inspired Plot to Bomb New York Capitol Building
Federal authorities in the United States have charged 35-year-old Jessica Bowie with attempting to provide material support to Daesh following an alleged plot to bomb the New York State Capitol. FBI agents arrested Bowie on August 19 after federal court filings showed she acquired explosive components and planned to target state lawmakers during legislative sessions in Albany.
Accused plotter planned food delivery disguise before fleeing to Syria
Federal court filings reveal that Bowie obtained a DoorDash delivery bag and bomb-making materials, including nails intended for shrapnel, to infiltrate the state government building under the guise of a food delivery driver. According to the criminal complaint, Bowie communicated with an FBI informant on an encrypted messaging app, stating her intention to destroy the Capitol building, eliminate senators while they were meeting, and destroy crucial state documents. She had also conducted reconnaissance by taking notes on security measures around the facility and gathering literature from a local social justice center.
Bowie reportedly converted to Islam and frequented online platforms to voice support for the foreign terrorist group while posting anti-American content. Beyond the Albany target, federal documents indicate she discussed escaping to Syria after the attack and potentially returning to launch further strikes against high-profile locations, including Times Square.
When FBI agents took her into custody on August 19, Bowie allegedly told officers, “There’s no helping me, you guys know enough.” She was scheduled to appear in federal court on Thursday, where her defense attorney declined to comment on the charges.
