Barcelona Dominates Betis 5-2 as Yamal Claims World's Best Tag
FC Barcelona extended their lead at the top of La Liga to five points after securing a 5-2 victory against 10-man Real Betis at La Cartuja stadium in Seville on Saturday. The result keeps Spanish football’s title contenders five points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid and maintains Barcelona’s perfect start to the domestic campaign.
Barcelona Equals 57-Year League Record
Head coach Hansi Flick praised 19-year-old winger Lamine Yamal as the best player in the world following a performance where the teenager scored a spectacular 10th-minute opening goal and provided an assist for Gabriel Jesus. The victory marked Barcelona‘s ninth consecutive league win from the start of the season, matching the all-time La Liga record set by Real Madrid during the 1968/69 campaign and bringing their overall record to 11 wins from 11 games across all competitions this season.
Real Betis temporarily equalised through a Valentin Gomez header before Rodri put Barcelona back in front with a header from a corner. Following the break, Gabriel Jesus extended the lead six minutes into the second half from a Yamal cut-back, moments before Ez Abde pulled one back for Betis. The match shifted further when Betis midfielder Facundo Bernal received a direct red card for headbutting Yamal early in the second half. Close-range finishes from Eric Garcia and substitute Dani Olmo sealed the five-goal performance, while Flick withdrew Yamal late in the game to safeguard him against a potential suspension ahead of the upcoming Clasico.
Barcelona now turn their focus to European competition, where they face Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday before returning to domestic action against Real Madrid next weekend.
